STELLA SIMS
- OUR SOLOIST
After a successful
career as a Television Director and Senior Broadcast Journalist
with the BBC, Stella decided to pursue a career in her main life-long
interest of singing. She has sung as a soloist and choir member
with many major choirs and groups in London and Birmingham. She
began her recital work in Birmingham in 1998, specialising in Russian,
French and Italian opera and song. In 1999, Stella conceived, co-produced
and sang "Nad Karmnyem", ("Over the Stone")
a solo song, poetry and contemporary dance production at the Birmingham
CBSO Centre and Birmingham's ArtFest 1999. She has participated
in the ArtsFest in subsequent years. In October 2001 Stella gave
the first performance of a new work by the Birmingham-based composer
Norman Harding and has commissioned him to compose a setting of
a Russian- poem. This song will be premiered by her at the Charity
Concert on 5 October.
